We are upgrading to a larger engine to ensure the car can meet modern performance needs, such as merging onto freeways and handling steep inclines. We also converted the front brakes from drum to disc to improve stopping power and provide a feel more consistent with modern vehicles.
Additionally, we are partially rebuilding the engine before installation to inspect its internal condition and determine whether it is suitable for use. Our first engine was fully rebuilt until we discovered a water leak in one of the cylinders, which had caused significant rust buildup. After removing the rust and inspecting the damage, we found the cylinder walls were in poor condition, ultimately leading us to scrap that engine and source a replacement.
These two images so the difference between a disc and drum brake, disc are standard in cars now because of how reliable they are.
You can see the huge plot of rust that built up in that cylinder which make us restart building up an engine
