This is a joint project with my uncle, who enjoys building and restoring classic cars. We started in Summer 2023, and it is still ongoing. The build has been slow, but I don’t mind, as it gives me the opportunity to spend time with him while learning how much simpler these classic cars are compared to modern vehicles.

We purchased the car through OfferUp, and it was essentially just a shell. It had no engine, no transmission, and not even usable wheels—it required a complete rebuild. Since I’m working within a budget, I created a tracking sheet to monitor our spending, helping us keep track of expenses and remaining funds throughout the project.

1970 Ford Maverick Project Restoration:

History of the car:

1970 Ford Maverick. The car was produced from 1969 to 1977 and was intended to be an economy car to compete with Volkswagen and Toyota in their respective markets, the Beetle and the Corolla. With a starting price of $1,995 and a very simple build intended to attract a broad range of consumers, this configuration came in two options: an inline 6 170 cubic inch engine or an inline 6 200 cubic inch engine. They also produced a grabber edition to the Maverick, which was a little more sporty with a V8 302 engine. The Maverick shifted the American point of view from muscle car to economy.
